Birthday Weekend Recap
Can you believe it is August already? The Summer seems to be flying by. This past Friday I celebrated my 30th birthday! My Mom and Dad came to visit from NY which was really fun to see them. We adventured to the beach for a walk, ate (A LOT), and went to my Dad's favorite Maine Store: Kittery Trading Post. Friday night was a casual dinner with family and a dear friend at Vida Cantina in Portsmouth NH... oh and this cake!
I am slightly embarrassed to say...there is none left! My friend surprised me at the restaurant with this cake from Beach Pea Baking Co (in Kittery Maine). It is a Tuxedo cake. Ah-MAZE-ing. Saturday morning started out with an early wake up and drive to my best friend's house in Vermont. She and her husband just bought a little house near the base of Mt. Mansfield with 5 acres and incredible views. Mike and I were both tired from the week (and he just had gotten to NH on the bus Friday night), but the moment we got into the car on our way to VT, we knew we were so happy to be going.
We got up to Vermont around 11 and spent the rest of the afternoon crown making, hiking to a swimming hole, and just catching up. That night we grilled and picked greens from their garden... and had another dessert feast.. oh and s'mores. Kat's husband Jon made a great fire for us and we sat our that evening chatting and star gazing. We even saw a shooting star!!
The next morning we hiked to the top of Vermont's tallest mountain: Mt. Mansfield, and caught some amazing views amongst great conversation.
This whirlwind weekend was an amazing way to celebrate entering this new decade: with close friends, family, fresh air, lots of food, and the warmth of the people who show up for you no matter what the occasion.
